The Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres will play game 2 of a four-game series on Tuesday. The Padres won game 1 with a 5-4 victory.
The Rockies have now lost four of their last six games and are doing so because of inconsistent offense. One game the Rockies are scoring double-digit runs, the next game they’re struggling to put up four runs, which has been the case the last two games. The Rockies pitching has also been inconsistent, which is something Juan Nicasio hopes to fix on Tuesday. Nicasio is 1-0 this season with an ERA of 3.75, and he has 12 strikeouts in 12 innings. Nicasio is also 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA in five career starts against the Padres.
USA TODAY Sports
The Padres have won four of their last five games and have a chance to get back to a .500 record with a win Tuesday. The Padres have been surprisingly hot offensively for their standards, as they’ve scored a combined 18 runs in their last four games, and Everth Cabrera has at least one hit in seven straight games. While the offense hopes to keep hitting the ball, Robbie Erlin looks to improve his 1-0 record and ERA of 1.35. With this being Erlin’s first full season, he has yet to face the Rockies in his career.
The Rockies are 2-5 in Nicasio's last 7 road starts and 1-5 in Nicasio's last 6 starts as an underdog. The Padres are 5-1 in Erlin's last 6 starts and 10-4 in their last 14 home games vs. a right-handed starter.
I really like the way Erlin is pitching so far this season, and the Padres finally showing signs of life offensively doesn't hurt. The Rockies have been up and down and hard to trust.
Give me the Padres t home.
