The Oakland Athletics will go for the sweep over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night. The A’s won game two with a 10-9 victory in the 11th inning.
The Athletics have now won four straight and eight of their last nine games, as they’ve been one of the biggest surprises early in the season. While guys like Brandon Moss and Josh Donaldson are hitting the ball well, it’s the Athletics pitching that has been ridiculous. The A’s have allowed three or fewer runs in eight of their last 11 games. Tommy Milone hopes to keep that trend going when he takes the mound with a 0-1 record and a 5.40 ERA. Milone has just one start this season, but he is 5-2 with a 4.35 ERA in seven career starts against the Angels.

The Angels continue to underachieve and are quickly becoming fade material with their rough start. The Angels just aren’t playing with any type of consistency and when they lose, they lose badly. The pitching staff has allowed at least seven runs in six of the eight Angels’ losses this season. Tyler Skaggs, who has been the rare solid pitcher so far for the Angels, will put his 1-0 record and 2.40 ERA on the line on Wednesday. Skaggs has nine strikeouts in 15 innings, and this will be his first time pitching against the A’s in his career.
The Athletics are 4-1 in Milone's last 5 road starts and 5-1 in Milone's last 6 road starts vs. a team with a losing record. The Angels are 2-5 in their last 7 games vs. a left-handed starter and 4-9 in their last 13 home games vs. a left-handed starter. The Athletics are 5-2 in Milone's last 7 starts vs. Angels.
I still think it's only a matter of time before the Angels turn their season around. But until we see progress, we'd be a fool to pick anybody but the Athletics in this matchup.
Ride Oakland until it stops paying.
