The Chicago White Sox and the Boston Red Sox face off on Thursday in Chicago as they close out their series with a battle of elite pitchers.
The Chicago White Sox fought the good fight on Wednesday but in the end they didn’t have enough in extra innings falling to the Red Sox. Alexei Ramirez hit a two-run home run and Conor Gillaspie, Adrian Nieto, and Tyler Flowers each had two hits as the White Sox scored four runs on 10 hits in all. On the mound starting pitcher John Danks was solid allowing just three hits and a run while striking out three over 6.0 innings but Matt Lindstrom blew the save and Leury Garcia took the loss. For Thursday’s game the White Sox start Chris Sale who has won all of his starts this season. For the year Sale has allowed 15 hits and six runs while striking out 19 over 20.1 innings for a 3-0 record and a 2.66 ERA.

The Boston Red Sox Rallied three times on Wednesday before finally walking away with the win. Dustin Pedroia had two hits and scored three runs, Jackie Bradley had the hit the drove in the eventual game winning runs, and David Ortiz and Jonny Gomes each had hits as the Red Sox scored six runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Clay Buchholz allowed six hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out six for a no decision as Chris Capuano got the win and Burke Badenhop earned the save. For Thursday’s game the Red Sox start Jon Lester who has pitched well but who has just been outpitched by his opponents. For the season Lester has allowed 19 hits and eight runs, six earned, while striking out 20 over 21 innings for a 1-2 record and a 2.57 ERA.
Chicago is 4-1 in their last five games as a favorite, 3-10 against the AL East, and 5-2 in Sale’s last seven starts as a favorite. Boston is 9-1 on the road against a left-handed starter, 10-4 against the AL Central, and 7-3 in Lester’s last 10 starts against the AL Central. Boston has won five of their last six meetings against Chicago.
The total is set at 7.5 and even there it is too high and I look for this one to stay under.
I also have a play on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
