The Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves face off on Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia as they close out their NL East series.
The Philadelphia Phillies are hoping to end their series with the Braves on a high note as they have lost the first two games of the series. On Wednesday the Phillies bats had no answers as Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, and Carlos Ruiz all had hits but that was all as the Phillies were shutout on three hits. Starting pitcher Cliff Lee was throwing smoke as he allowed 11 hits and one run while striking out 13 pitching a full nine innings taking the loss and falling to 2-2 on the season. For Thursday’s game the Phillies start A.J. Burnett who has made three starts this season. Thus far Burnett has allowed 17 hits and struck out 10 over 16 innings for a 0-1 record and 3.94 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Atlanta Braves didn’t take advantage of all of their opportunities on Wednesday but they were still good enough to get the win. Evena Gattis had four hits including a home run, Chris Johnson had three hits, and Freddie Freeman had a hit as the Braves scored one run on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Julio Teheran had his best stuff working allowing three hits and striking out four over 9.0 innings to get the win and go to 2-1 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Braves start Alex Wood who has won two of his three starts. For the season Wood has allowed 15 hits and four runs while striking out 17 over 19 innings for a 2-1 record and a 1.89 ERA.
Philadelphia is 5-0 in their last five home games against a left-handed starter, 3-9 in their last 12 home games, and 1-4 as a home underdog. Atlanta is 5-0 in their last five games, 6-2 as a road favorite, and 4-10 in game three of a series. Atlanta is 4-1 in the last five meetings of these two.
With the total at 7.5 I see another low scoring game on the way so my play is the under.
I also have a play on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
