The New York Yankees are playing solid baseball and they sit atop the American League East. The Yankees are 3-3 on the road, 7-3 in their last 10 games, and they have won their last four games. As a team the Yankees are hitting .273 with Jacoby Ellsbury hitting .353, Yangervis Solarte hitting .348, and Carlos Beltran hitting .327. The Yankees pitching staff has an ERA of 3.88 with the starters at 4.08 and the bullpen at 3.38. For game one of this series the Yankees start C.C. Sabathia who always seems to come up big in big games. For the season Sabathia has allowed 21 hits and 14 runs while striking out 21 over 19 innings for a 1-2 record and a 6.63 ERA.
Tampa Bay is 20-9 as a favorite, 9-4 in their last 13 home games, and 6-1 in Price’s last seven starts. New York is 4-1 in their last five games, 1-4 as a road underdog, and 1-4 in Sabathia’s last five road starts. New York is 6-16 in their last 22 at Tampa Bay.
This is a tough call because while Price would appear to be almost a lock, the odds are big enough to take a chance here that Sabathia comes up big in a big game once again.
