The Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners face off on Thursday in Arlington as they close out their AL West series.
The Texas Rangers looked to be in trouble on Wednesday but they rallied in the ninth inning to get the win. Leonys Martin had two hits and Shin-Soo Choo, Elvis Andrus, and Alex Rios each had hits as the Rangers scored three runs on six hits. Starting pitch Yu Darvish allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out eight over 7.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Pedro Figueroa earned the win to go to 1-1 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Rangers start Tanner Scheppers who is still looking for his first win this season. For the season Scheppers has allowed 21 hits and 14 runs while striking out 11 over 16 innings for an 0-1 record and a 7.88 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners appeared to have a win in their hands on Wednesday but they let it get away from them late turning it into a loss. Abraham Almonte and Mike Zunino had two hits each and Kyle Seager had a hit as the Mariners scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Felix Hernandez allowed four hits and a run while striking out nine over 7.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Fernando Rodney blew the save and took the loss. For Thursday’s game the Mariners start Erasmo Ramirez who is looking to end a personal two game losing streak. For the season Ramirez has allowed 18 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 10 over 16 innings for a 1-2 record and a 5.62 ERA.
Texas is 15-2 as a favorite, 13-4 in their last 17 home games, and 36-15 against the AL West. Seattle is 7-17 against a right-handed starter, 1-6 as an underdog, and 1-7 in Ramirez’s last eight starts. Seattle is 1-5 in the last six meetings of these two.
Seattle couldn’t hold on Wednesday but I look for them to bounce right back here and get the win.
