The Baltimore Orioles visit the Boston Red Sox in AL East action from Fenway at 7:10PM on NESN.
The Orioles enter this series 7-7 overall and 3-3 on the road. The Birds are fresh off a dominant series against Tampa Bay where they took both games and outscored the Rays 10-1 through two contests. Due to the rain out on Tuesday night, the Orioles will send their ace Chris Tillman to the mound. Tillman is 1-1 on the year but sports an era of 0.84 and was rock solid in his last start but was saddled with a loss via some infield errors by his third baseman. The Orioles offense has yet to really hit its full potential this season but they have been pleased with the output of catcher Matt Weiters who is leading the team with a .341 average, 3 homers and 9 rbi’s. Nick Markakis leads the team in hits with 16 and slugger Chris Davis has reached base in 13 straight games and has started to display some of his power of late.
USA TODAY Sports
The Red Sox are 7-9 on the young season and have not really gotten into the flow of things as they were late last year when they went on a run to a world series late. The Red Sox return home after a series win over the Chicago White Sox that finished with a two run top of the 9th that capped a 3-1 win. John Lester went 8 strong innings in this one and struck out 9. On Friday, the Red Sox will need a strong outing from John Lackey who is 2-1 on the year with a 3.86 ERA. The Red Sox are led on offense in all key categories by Mike Napoli -- Napoli has surged out of the gates this season and is currently hitting .302 with 3 homers and 9 RBI’s to lead the Sox.
The Orioles have been pretty strong on the road so far this season, taking a series in the bronx -- I like the Birds to get a strong offensive outing and another gem from Tillman off significant rest on their way to the win in what should be a packed house for Friday night baseball under the lights.
