The Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians will play game one of a three-game series on Friday.
The Blue Jays lost two of three to the Minnesota Twins, including a double-header on Thursday. The Blue Jays pitching allowed 16 runs in the two losses to the Twins, which put a damper on a pitching staff that allowed three or less runs in the four previous games. Drew Hutchison will be the guy the Blue Jays turn to, as he’s 2-1 on the season with an ERA of 3.68. Hutchison has allowed zero runs in two of his three starts and has 15 strikeouts in 14.2 innings. This will be Hutchison’s first career start against the Indians.

The Indians split a series against the Detroit Tigers and have lost five of their last seven games overall. While Michael Brantley already has 14 RBI on the season, the Indians pitching staff has allowed six or more runs in four of their last six games. That includes the seven runs the Indians allowed to the Tigers in Thursday’s loss. Taking the mound for the Indians on Friday will be Justin Masterson, who is 0-0 on the season with a 5.87 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 15.1 innings. Masterson is 4-1 with a 2.79 ERA in six career starts against the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays are 1-4 in Hutchison's last 5 starts as a road underdog and 2-5 in Hutchison's last 7 road starts. The Indians are 12-4 in Masterson's last 16 starts as a favorite and 0-5 in Masterson's last 5 starts vs. American League East.
Besides Thursday's disaster, I really like the way the Blue Jays have been pitching, and the Indians, well, not so much. While Masterson has had great career success against the Blue Jays, there's value in backing Toronto in this matchup.
