The Atlanta Braves and New York Mets will begin a three-game series on Friday night. The Mets took two of three from the Braves when these two teams met a couple of weeks ago.
The Braves took two of three from the Philadelphia Phillies and have now won five of their last six games. While Freddie Freeman and Eddie Gattis have combined for eight homeruns, the Braves are getting the job done pitching wise. Atlanta has held six of its last eight opponents to three or less runs, including one or less runs in two straight games. Aaron Harang will get the nod on Friday, and he’s 2-1 with a 0.96 ERA in three starts. In 11 career starts against the Mets, Harang is 4-5 with a 5.20 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Mets are coming off a sweep over the Arizona Diamondbacks and enjoyed Thursday off. Much like the Braves, the Mets are pitching very well, allowing just five combined runs in their last three games. Offensively, the Mets are getting a boost from Daniel Murphy, who has six hits and five runs in his last three games. Taking the mound on Friday will be Jonathon Niese, who is 0-1 on the season with a 3.46 ERA, and he has nine strikeouts in 13 innings pitched. Niese is 6-4 with a 3.62 ERA in 15 career starts against the Braves.
The Braves are 2-5 in their last 7 road games vs. a left-handed starter and 5-1 in their last 6 vs. National League East. The Mets are 7-1 in Niese's last 8 starts during game 1 of a series and 4-9 in Niese's last 13 home starts.
In a toss-up matchup, I'll go ahead and take the home team. The Mets have found their confidence against Arizona and had a day of rest on Thrusday, while the Braves are coming off a tough loss against the Phillies. Niese has looked OK to begin the season, while Harang has struggled in his career against the Mets.
Give me NY in this matchup.
