The Tampa bay Rays and the New York Yankees face off on Saturday for game three of their weekend series at Tropicana Field.
The Tampa Bay Rays dropped game one of their series with the Yankees on Thursday but they bounced back on Friday getting the win. Wil Myers had three hits, Sean Rodriguez hit a home run, and Evan Longoria had three hits as the Rays scored 11 runs on 16 hits. Starting pitcher Erik Bedard allowed six hits and four earned runs while striking out three to not factor in the decision as Jake McGee got the win to go to 1-0 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Rays start Chris Archer who is coming off of a loss in his last start. For the season Archer has allowed 22 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 17 over 18 innings for a 1-1 record and a 4.50 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Yankees jumped out to a nice lead on Friday but they were unable to hold and were blown out. Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and Derek Jeter, Alfonso Soriano, and Brian McCann each had hits as the Yankees scored five runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out two over 5.2 innings to not factor in the decision as Adam Warren took the loss and blew the save. For Saturday’s game the Yankees start Ivan Nova who is coming off of a win in his last start. For the season Nova has allowed 24 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out eight over 16.2 innings for a 2-1 record and a 5.94 ERA.
Tampa bay is 9-3 as a home favorite, 2-5 against the AL East, and 5-2 in Archer’s last seven starts. New York is 5-1 in their last six games, 2-8 as an underdog, and 10-4 in Nova’s last 14 starts. New York is 3-9 in the last 12 meetings of these two.
This one should be close but I like the Yankees to get the job done.
