The Miami Marlins will go for the sweep over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon.
The Mariners have lost five straight games and seven of their last eight. A lot of these struggles have come on the offensive end, as the Mariners have scored two or less runs in six of their last eight games. Robinson Cano has just one homerun and eight RBI in 17 games. While the Mariners offense hopes to get back on track, Brandon Maurer will see his first action of the season. Maurer was 5-8 last season with a 6.30 ERA and had 70 strikeouts in 90 innings pitched. This will be Maurer’s first time pitching against the Marlins in his career.
USA TODAY Sports
The Marlins have now won three of their last four games and are starting to play with a lot more confidence. The Marlins have scored a combined 29 runs in their last four games, and Giancarlo Stanton has 23 hits, six homeruns and 26 RBI in 18 games. The Marlins pitching staff also shutout the Mariners on Saturday and held them to two hits. Kevin Slowey will get the nod on Sunday, as he’s 0-0 on the season with a 4.38 ERA and has allowed 15 hits in 12.1 innings of work. Slowey is 2-2 with a 4.18 ERA in five career starts against the Mariners.
The Mariners are 6-1 in their last 7 games as a road favorite and 0-4 in Maurer's last 4 starts vs. a team with a losing record. The Marlins are 5-1 in their last 6 interleague home games vs. a right-handed starter and 17-43 in their last 60 during game 3 of a series.
It's another question of how long the Marlins run is going to last, but I like them once again at home. The Marlins are hitting the ball well, while the Mariners are lost on both sides of the ball.
Give me the fish for the cheap price.
