The Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Royals face off on Monday in Cleveland as they play game one of their AL Central series.
The Cleveland Indians Avoided being swept by the Blue Jays by getting the win on Sunday but they still sit in last place in the AL Central. The Indians are 4-5 at home, 3-7 in their last 10 games, and 2.5 games behind the first place Tigers in the AL Central standings. As a team the Indians are hitting .239 as David Murphy leads Cleveland averaging .288, Michael Brantley is hitting .284, and Yan Gomes is hitting .245. The Indians pitching staff has an ERA of 4.25 with the starters at 5.03 and the bullpen at 2.93. For game one against the Royals the Indians start Zach McAllister who is unbeaten this season. For the season McAllister has allowed 15 hits and four runs while striking out 15 over 17.2 innings for a 2-0 record and a 2.04 ERA.

The Kansas City Royal are one of just two teams in the American League Central that are over .500 and they are in second place in the division standings. The Royals are 3-5 on the road, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they are a game behind the Tigers. As a team the Royals are hitting .253 as Alcides Escobar is hitting .298, Eric Hosmer is hitting .292, and Norichika Aoki is hitting .286. As a team the Kansas City pitching staff has an ERA of 2.90 with the starters at 2.72 and the bullpen at 3.35. For game one at Progressive Field the Royals start Jeremy Guthrie who hasn’t taken a loss this season. For the season Guthrie has allowed 17 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 11 over 18.2 innings for a 2-0 record and 4.34 ERA.
Cleveland is 3-5 in their last eight home games, 2-6 against the AL Central, and 4-1 in McAllister’s last five starts. Kansas City is 5-1 in their last six games, 1-4 as a road underdog, and 19-7 in Guthrie’s last 26 starts against the AL Central. Kansas City has won four of the last five meetings of these two.
This game looks even but I am skeptical of the Royals on the road as the last we saw of them there they were being swept in Minnesota.
