The Texas Rangers will go for the sweep over the Oakland Athletics when the two teams play Wednesday afternoon. The Rangers won game two, 5-4.
The Rangers have scored nine runs in the first two games and have won eight of their last 10 games to improve to 13-8 on the season. The Rangers bats are producing at a high level lately, which is led by Alex Rios, who is batting .321 with 27 hits and 10 RBI. Pitcher Martin Perez has also been impressive, as he’s 3-0 on the season with a 1.86 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 29 innings. Perez has allowed just six runs and is 2-3 with a 5.79 ERA in five career starts against the Athletics.
USA TODAY Sports
The Athletics have split their last six games and could be swept for the first time this season. In this series, the A’s have given up leads in both games, while both starting pitchers have allowed three runs. Of course, the Athletics came into this series with terrific pitching, allowing three or less runs in six of their last eight previous matchups. One of those pitchers who has been great is Sonny Gray, who is 3-0 on the year with a 1.80 ERA and has 23 strikeouts in 25 innings. Gray has allowed just five earned runs, and this will be his first time pitching against the Rangers in his career.
The Rangers are 6-1 in Perezs last 7 road starts and 4-0 in Perezs last 4 starts overall. The Athletics are 8-2 in Grays last 10 starts and 5-2 in Grays last 7 home starts.
The Rangers have been on a role and are looking for the sweep. No reason to pick against the Rangers right now, especially with the fact we're getting plus money with the hotter team.
