The Houston Astros look to sweep the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday afternoon. The Astros won game two, 5-2.
The Astros are still one of the worst teams in all of baseball, but have held the Mariners to just four runs in the first two games and could pick up their first sweep of the season. The Astros bats have also woken up in this series, which includes three RBI from Jason Castro and two runs for Dexter Fowler. Taking the mound Wednesday will be Jarred Cosart, who is 1-2 on the season with a 7.36 ERA, and he has 15 strikeouts in 18.1 innings. Cosart has allowed 15 earned runs, and this will be just his second career start against the Mariners.
USA TODAY Sports
The Mariners have to be the most disappointing team this early in the season as they’ve now lost eight straight games and are on the verge of being swept by one of the worst teams in the league. The Mariners have scored no more than two runs in four straight games, while their pitching staff has allowed five or more runs in six of their last eight games. Getting the start will be Chris Young, who is 0-0 on the year with a 3.27 ERA and has four strikeouts in 11 innings of work. Young is 3-0 with a 3.06 ERA in three career starts against the Astros.
The Astros are 2-5 in Cosarts last 7 starts vs. a team with a losing record and 1-4 in Cosarts last 5 starts with 4 days of rest. The Mariners are 7-22 in their last 29 games vs. a right-handed starter and 4-12 in their last 16 games as a home favorite. The Astros are 5-0 in the last 5 meetings in Seattle.
Why not take the Astros at this price? The Mariners have shown you nothing over the last week or so, and the Astros are taking advantage of it. I'll bite Houston with this insane line.
