The Kansas City Royals head to Camden Yards to open a series with the Baltimore Orioles Friday.
Kansas City has yet to get un tracked and would like to soon to avoid an early season slump. The Royals had won five in a row before a 5-1 defeat at Cleveland on Thursday has the team looking at losses in four of five. The Tribe seemed to match up well with KC in taking three of four with better pitching and hitting with Bruce Chen getting tagged for all five runs in the 5th. Chen gave up six hits and walked one in 4.1 frames which was a losing effort with the offense mustering only four hits while striking out eleven times. Yordano Ventura makes his fourth start of 2014 and first ever appearance against Baltimore. Ventura struggled last time out with four runs plated on six hits and four BB in only four innings of an 8-3 loss to Minnesota.

Baltimore is all about potential in my view with the ability to score and pitch as well as any team. The problem is maintaining success in both areas in the long term. The Orioles have absolutely crushed the ball the last two games with 21 runs scored following Thursday's 11-4 victory over Toronto. Starter Bud Norris gave up a pair of homers and three runs over six innings which proved to be overkill with with the bats coming to life with nine late runs. Overall the bats pounded Blue Jays pitching for 14 hits with Chris Davis and Adam Jones driving in three runs while Nelson Cruz and Matt Wieters knocked in two apiece. The Orioles hand the ball to Ubaldo Jimenez who makes his 5th start in a Baltimore uniform. Jimenez has struggled in the early going with an 0-3 record and 7.04 ERA covering 22.1 innings of work.
Ventura is the key for Kansas City as he has to at least contain the Orioles offense. I believe he has an edge over Jimenez who has struggled and I'm inclined to take a chance on the Royals but will update if I see something...
