The Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers will begin a three-game series on Friday night.
The Rockies head into this matchup winning five of their last eight games and sitting one game above a .500 record. Besides allowing 10 runs in a Wednesday loss to the San Francisco Giants, the Rockies have been the job done with off-the-wall pitching. The Rockies have allowed two or less runs in five of their last seven games, allowing just 95 earned runs in 203 innings so far. One pitcher who hopes to keep that up is Jordan Lyles, who is 3-0 on the season with a 3.04 ERA and has allowed 21 hits in 23.2 innings. Lyles picked up the loss by allowing seven runs in 5.1 innings in his only career start against the Dodgers.
USA TODAY Sports
The Dodgers just lost three of four games to the Philadelphia Phillies and have lost six of their last 10 games overall. Both the Dodgers hitting and pitching has been inconsistent so far this season, and the Dodgers are 4-7 when scoring three or less runs. The fact the Dodgers have gone 11 games already with little run production is insane given their lineup. Josh Beckett will get the nod on Friday, and he’s 0-0 with a 2.57 ERA and has allowed eight hits in 14 innings. Beckett is 5-3 with a 4.10 ERA in nine career starts against the Rockies.
The Rockies are 17-41 in their last 58 games as a road underdog and 19-43 in their last 62 road games overall. The Dodgers are 1-5 in Beckett;s last 6 starts and 3-7 in Beckett's last 10 starts as a favorite.
I’m still not a big believer in Beckett, and you shouldn’t be either with his recent record as a favorite. That’s why I’m backing the Rockies and the plus money. The Rockies have been pitching lights out and the Dodgers haven’t exactly been doing much offensively.
The Rockies may provide the best value of the day.
