The Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Saturday in Atlanta for game two of their series.
The Atlanta Braves got out to a lead on Friday and held on to get the win on Friday. Justin Upton hit a home run, Freddie Freeman had three hits, and Evan Gattis had two hits as the braves scored five runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Ervin Santana allowed nine hits and four runs while striking out seven over 6.2 innings and Craig Kimbrel earned his seventh save. For Saturday’s game the Braves start David Hale who doesn’t have a decision this season. For the season Hale has allowed 16 hits and five earned runs while striking out 11 over 15.1 innings for a 0-0 record and a 2.93 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Cincinnati Reds never gave up on Friday and had runners on base until the final out of the game but they came up short taking the loss in Atlanta. Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips had two hits each and Billy Hamilton and Jay Bruce each had hits as the Reds cored four runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Homer Bailey allowed nine hits and five runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-2 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Reds start Mike Leake who has won his last two decisions. For the season Leake has allowed 22 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out 16 over 28.1 innings for a 2-1 record and a 3.49 ERA.
Atlanta is 10-3 in their last 13 games, 20-7 in game two of a series, and 52-23 as a home favorite. Cincinnati is 3-7 in game two of a series, 4-1 against a right handed starter, and 2-6 in Leake’s last eight road starts.
The total in this one is set at 7.5 and I like the under despite the nine run scored on Friday.
My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that pick in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
