The Houston Astros and the Oakland A’s face off on Saturday at Minute Maid Park for game three of their AL West series.
The Houston Astros put themselves in position to win on Friday but they watched the game fall apart in front of them as they lost to the A’s. Jose Altuve had three hits. Chris Carter had two hits, and Dexter Fowler and Jason Castro each had two hits as the Astros scored five runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Brad Peacock allowed five hits and five runs while striking out three over 5.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Josh Fields took the loss to fall to 0-2 for the year. For Saturday’s game the Astros start Dallas Keuchel who has won his last two decisions. For the season Keuchel has allowed 25 hits and none runs while striking out 25 over 24 innings for a 2-1 record and a 3.38 ERA.

The Oakland A’s found themselves in a tight game on Friday but they created chances and blew the game wide open late getting the win. Josh Donaldson hit a home run and Derek Norris, Jed Lowrie, Brandon Moss, and Daric Barton each had two hits as the A’s scored 12 runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Jesse Chavez allowed eight hits and four runs while striking out five over 5.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Luke Gregorson got the win to go to 1-1 fro the year. For Saturday’s game the Athletics start Daniel Strally who has no decisions in his last two starts. For the season Strally has allowed 22 hits and 13 runs while striking out 21 over 21.2 innings for a 1-1 record and a 5.40 ERA.
Houston is 14-42 in their last 56 games, 27-61 against a right-handed starter, and 3-9 in Keuchel’s last 12 starts. Oakland is 31-8 in their last 29 road games, 13-5 in their last 18 games, and 4-1 in Strally’s last five starts as a road favorite. Oakland has won 25 of their last 30 games against the Astros.
Oakland is a big favorite but I don’t love them here, but I will give them the edge and take the A’s.
