The New York Mets and the Miami Marlins face off on Sunday at Citi Field as they close out their NL East series.
The New York Mets jumped out to a big lead on Saturday and they were unable to hold on losing in extra innings. Bobby Abreu hit a home run and Daniel Murphy, Eric Young Jr., and Lucas Duda all had hits as the Mets scored six runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Jenry Mejia allowed eight hits and six runs while striking out six to not factor in decision as Carlos Torres blew the save and Kyle Farnsworth took the loss. For Sunday’s game the Mets start Dillon Gee who lost his last start. For the season Gee has allowed 25 hits and 13 runs while striking out 21 over 32.2 innings for a 1-1 record and a 3.58 ERA.

The Miami Marlins were down five runs early on Saturday but they never quit and got the win in extra innings. Giancarlo Stanton and Jarrod Saltalamacchia each hit home runs and Casey McGehee had three hits as the Marlins scored seven runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Kevin Slowey allowed five hits and five runs while striking out four over 4.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Dan Jennings blew the save but Mike Dunn got the win to go to 2-3 for the season and Steven Chisek earned his fifth save. For Sunday’s game the Marlins start To Koehler who had a no decision in his last start. For the season Chisek has allowed 18 hits and six earned runs while striking out 18 over 25.1 innings for a 2-1 record and a 2.13 ERA.
New York is 5-2 in their last seven games, 11-4 as a home favorite, and 6-2 in Gee’s last eight starts against a team with a losing record. Miami is 6-12 in their last 18 games, 4-9 as an underdog, and 2-6 in Koehler’s last eight road starts. Miami is 2-4 in the last six meetings of these two.
This one looks like a pitcher’s duel and I like the under.
