The New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels face off on Sunday Night Baseball at Yankee Stadium as they close out their series.
The New York Yankees were crushed on Friday Night but they bounced back Saturday afternoon to win game two of this series. JR Murphy had two hits including a home run, Brett Gardener had two hits, and Jacoby Ellsbury and Derek Jeter each had hits as the Yankees scored four runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Vidal Nuno allowed five hits and three runs while striking out four over 4.1 innings to not factor in the decision as Dellin Betances got the win and David Robertson earned his third save. For Sunday’s game the Yankees start Masahiro Tanaka who has won his last two starts. For the season Tanaaka has allowed 22 hits and seven runs while striking out 35 over 29.1 innings for a 3-0 record and a 2.15 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Los Angeles Angels trailed the Yankees by a run for most of the game on Saturday but they never caught them taking the loss. Mike Trout had two hits including a home run and Albert Pujols and Chris Ianetta each had two hits as the Angels scored three runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher hector Santiago allowed six hits and four runs while striking out three over 4.1 innings to take the loss and go to 0-4 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Angels start Garrett Richards who has no decisions in his last two starts. For the season Richards has allowed 13 hits and seven runs while striking out 24 over 25 innings for a 2-0 record and a 2.52 ERA.
New York is 6-1 in their last seven home games, 24-8 as a home favorite, and 10-4 in their last 14 games. Los Angeles is 5-2 against the AL East, 4-11 as an underdog, and 2-6 in Richard’s last eight starts as a road underdog. Los Angeles is 2-6 in the last eight meetings of these two.
This one should be low scoring and I like it to fall under the total.
