The Houston Astros and the Washington Nationals face off on Wednesday as they play game two of their interleague series.
The Houston Astros led most of the way on Tuesday but they were unable to close it out and took the loss. Jose Altuve, Jason Castro, and Dexter Fowler each had hits as the Astros scored three runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Jarred Cosart allowed five hits and two runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Anthony Bass blew the save and Josh Fields took the loss. For Wednesday’s game the Astros start Bret Oberholtzer who hasn’t won in nine starts. For the season Oberholtzer has allowed 29 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 22 over 27.1 innings for a 0-4 record and a 4.61 ERA.

The Washington Nationals were forced to battle from from behind on Tuesday but they managed to make the comeback and get the win. Jayson Werth had two hits including a home run, Adam LaRoche had two hits, and Anthony Rendon and Denard Span each had hits as the Nationals scored four runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez allowed five hits and three runs while striking out nine over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Tyler Clippard got the win to go to 1-2 for the season and Rafael Soriano earned his fourth save. For Wednesday’s game the Nationals start Jordan Zimmerman who had a no decision in his last start. For the season Zimmerman has allowed 29 hits and 12 earned runs while striking out 28 over 26.2 innings for a 1-1 record and a 4.05 ERA.
Houston is 17-36 in their last 53 interleague home games, 5-13 against the NL East, and 0-4 in Oberholtzer’s last four home starts. Washington is 16-7 in game two of a series, 4-8 int heir last 12 interleague road games, and 36-17 in Zimmerman’s last 53 starts. Washington has won five in a row in Houston.
Washington is a big favorite here but they are still the play as they are just the better overall option.
