The Kansas City Royals and the Toronto Blue jays face off on Thursday in Kansas City.
The Kansas City Royals held off several Blue Jays opportunities on Wednesday to get then win over the Blue Jays. Eric Hosmer had two hits and Billy Butler and omar Infante had gits as the Roays scored four runs off of six hits. Starting pitcher Yordano Ventura allowed just two hits while striking out four over 5.0 scoreless innings but didn’t factor in the decision as Aaron Crow blew the save, Kelvin Herrera got the win, and Greg Holland earned his seventh save. For Thursday’s game the Royals start Jeremy Guthrie who has two no decisions and a loss in his last three starts. For the season Guthrie has allowed 33 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 17 over 32 innings for a 2-1 record and a 4.22 ERA.

The Toronto Blue Jays had plenty of chances on Wednesday but they were unable to take avantage of many of them as they fell to the Royals. Edwin Encarnacion had two hits, Chris Getz had two hits, and Jose Bautista added a hit as the Blue Jays scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Drew Hutchison allowed five hits and four runs while striking out five over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-2 for the season. For Thursday’s game Toronto starts Mark Buehrle who is coming off of his first loss of the season. For the year Buehrle has allowed 33 hits and eight runs while striking out 19 over 33.1 innings for a 4-1 record and a 2.16 ERA.
Kansas City is 5-1 against the NL East, 5-1 in their last six home games, and 1-4 in Guthrie’s last 14 starts as a home favorite. Toronto is 1-6 in their last seven games, 0-5 against a right-handed starter, and 7-3 in Buehrle’s last 10 starts in game three of a series. Toronto is 6-3 in their last nine games in Kansas City.
I liked the Royals on Wednesday but look for Buehrle to shake off his last outing and come up big here.
