The Toronto Blue Jays shoot for a win Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates in an interleague bout.
Based on last season Toronto isn't in all that bad a spot but they haven't been playing well and they can't afford a lengthy slowdown. The Blue Jays can blame Friday's 6-5 loss at Pittsburgh on the relief corp who blew a two run 9th inning lead which has the team staring at defeats in seven of nine. Brandon Morrow gave up three runs on eleven hits over five innings but Sergio Santos was awful with two homers and three runs plated in 2/3 of an inning. The Jays rapped out ten hits with Colby Rasmus leading the way with a two run homer. RA Dickey brings his knuckleball to PNC Park to quiet the Pittsburgh offense. Dickey looks to duplicate his last start when he held the dangerous Boston bats to a lone run in 7-1 decision.

Pittsburgh certainly doesn't look like the threat they were over the last several years in the National League Central with neither the arms or bats standing out. A three run 9th inning rally gave the Pirates a 6-5 victory Friday which might be the spark that turns things around for a team that has dropped eight of eleven. The big come back got Gerrit Cole off the hook after he struggled through five innings where four runs were plated on seven hits. The Pirates pounded out 17 hits with Pedro Alverez and Starling Marte leaving the yard with Alverez and Andrew McCutchen knocking in two runs each. Lefty Francisco Liriano toes the rubber Saturday versus visiting Toronto in search of victory number one. Liriano is 0-3 with 3.97 ERA in six starts covering 34 innings pitched.
The thing that jumps off the page at me is neither team has been setting the world on fire so I'd say pass and put your money elsewhere. I'm simply going with the better odds...
