The Miami Marlins and New York Mets contiue their series in South Florida on Tuesday.

The Mets have been hanging tough in the National League East with third but they don't get much thought with Washington and Atlanta expected to dominate the division. New York can not afford losing streaks of any length and are in the midst of one with losses in four of five after a series opening 4-3 defeat at Miami on Monday. Starter Jonathan Niese tossed seven scoreless innings but Daisuke Matsuzaka gave up three runs without recording an out before Scott German absorbed the defeat with a run plated in the 9th. The bats produced solo homers by Daniel Murphy and Curtis Granderson for an early 3-0 lead but nothing after the 4th. Veteran right hander Bartolo Colon takes the mound against Miami on Tuesday. Colon looks to rebound from a 7-4 defeat at Colorado in which he gave up all seven runs on ten hits in 4.2 frames.

I don't expect Miami is going to challenge for the top spot in the National League East but they look improved and just might be the best team outside of the Nats and Braves. The Marlins are playing their best baseball of the season and stayed hot with a 4-3 victory over the Mets for their 6th win in seven contests. Nathan Eovaldi gave up all three runs on five hits while striking out ten over seven frames that held the fort until the offense got going. The bats totaled nine hits and walked five times with three players driving in runs and four scoring with three runs plated in the 8th and one in the 9th. The Marlins turn to Henderson Alverez to contain the bats of the visiting Mets. Alverez wasn't at his best in a 5-4 decision over Atlanta with four runs plated on eight hits including a pair of homers in six innings.

I think going against a veteran in Colon isn't a great plan but Miami has been playing great baseball and are coming up big. I am backing the Marlins and hope the streak continues for one more day...
