The Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Francisco Giants face off on Tuesday at PNC Park for game two of their series.
The Pittsburgh Pirates battled deep into extra innings on Monday but in the end they didn’t have enough to get the win against the Giants. Pedro Alvarez had two hits including a home run, Andrew McCutchen had four hits, and Josh Harrison and Starling marte each had two hits as the Pirates scored 10 runs on 16 hits. Starting pitcher Jeff Locke allowed eight hits and six runs while striking out five over 5.1 innings to not factor in the decision as Jared Hughes took the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Pirates start Charlie Morton who is still looking for his first win this season. For the season Morton has allowed 37 hits and 17 earned runs while striking out 25 over 36.1 innings for a 0-4 record and a 4.21 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The San Francisco Giants have been one of the hottest teams in baseball recently and that continued as they got the win on Monday. Hector Sanchez had four hits and Hunter Pence, Angel Pagan, and Buster Posey had three hits each as the Giants scored 11 runs on 20 hits. Starting pitcher Yusmeiro Petit allowed nine hits and eight runs while striking out four over 4.1 innings to not factor in the decision as Jean Machi got the win and Sergio Romo earned the save. For Tuesday’s game the Giants start Tim Hudson who has won his last two starts. For the season Hudson has allowed 32 hits and 11 runs while striking out 31 over 45.2 innings for a 4-1 record and a 2.17 ERA.
Pittsburgh is 3-8 in their last 11 home games, 1-7 in their last eight games as an underdog, and 0-4 in Morton’s last four starts. San Francisco is 6-0 in their last six games, 5-2 in their last seven road games against a right handed starter, and 5-1 in Hudson’s last six starts. San Francisco is 2-4 in their last six games in Pittsburgh.
The total in this one is set at seven and after 21 runs scored on Monday I have to believe this one goes over the total.
My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
