The Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals will play game two of three on Tuesday. The Nationals won game one, 4-0.
The Dodgers have now dropped three of their last four games and continue to be mighty streaky for a team that was considered one of the best heading into the season. The Dodgers pitching staff has allowed four or more runs in seven of their last eight games and the lineup has been inconsistent, especially with Yasiel Puig out of the lineup. Puig didn’t play in Monday’s game and remains day-to-day after running into a wall Sunday against the Miami Marlins. Making just his second start of the season will be Clayton Kershaw, who picked up the win back on March 22, allowing five hits in one run in 6.2 innings. Kershaw is 5-2 with a 3.18 ERA in eight career starts against the Nationals.
USA TODAY Sports
The Nationals have won four of their last six games and have moved into a first place tie with the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. The Nationals pitching staff continues to be on fire, allowing one or less runs in five of their last nine games. The Nationals have the sixth best ERA in the majors and are 15-2 this season when allowing three or less runs. Offensively, Adam LaRoche has five multi-hit games in his last 10 games. Blake Treinen will get the start for the Nationals.
The Dodgers are 12-5 in Kershaw's last 17 road starts and 5-2 in Kershaw's last 7 starts. The Nationals are 17-8 in their last 25 games vs. a left-handed starter and 17-8 in their last 25 during game 2 of a series. The Dodgers are 5-1 in Kershaw's last 6 starts vs. Nationals.
I can't pick against the Dodgers when Kershaw is on the mound. He's one of the top pitchers in baseball when healthy and should be able to quiet the incosnsitent bats of the Nationals. Don't like the price, but it's the best play when looking at this game.
