The red hot Detroit Tigers host the Houston Astros in the Motor City on Wednesday night.
Although Houston is probably a bit more competitive in 2014 then we have seen in recent years I don't think that translates in to a winning record with the arms and bats needing to improve even more. Facing Detroit the past few days hasn't been a good time and Tuesday's 11-4 defeat tells us all we nneed to know. It wasn't a good time on the mound with Brett Oberholtzer giving up four runs in six frames with Jose Cisnero allowing two before Josh Fields was tagged five runs in 2/3 of an inning. The offense couldn't contend on nine hits with a three run 9th falling well short. Brad Peacock takes the ball Wednesday looking to cool off the Detroit attack. Peacock threw the ball well in a 5-4 victory over Seattle with all four runs allowed (two earned) in six innings pitched.

The Tigers have a great combination of hitting and pitching which has been on full display over the last few weeks. Both units have been outstanding and on the same page with Tuesday's 11-4 decision over visiting Houston giving Detroit seven consecutive victories and eight in ten outings. Robbie Ray received the win with a run scored on five hits being overkill with the offense plating runs in bunches. Justin Miller struggled in the 9th with three runs allowed but even that didn't matter. The offense pounded out 18 hits with Miguel Cabrera going deep and driving in four while Danny Worth and JD Martinez combined for five RBI's. The Tigers give Wednesday's start to Rick Porcello who is looking for his 5th win. Porcello hopes to duplicate his last outing when he gave up a pair of runs over seven frames of an 8-2 victory over Kansas City.
Detroit has been the most impressive team in the game the past few weeks with everyone playing well. I don't think Porcello is a big favorite hurler but with that offense behind him maybe he will be Wednesday...
