The Miami Marlins hope get a win at Petco Park when they take the field with the San Diego Padres Friday.
Miami has shown tremendous improvement over previous seasons and whether it continues is the question with no answer right now. Both the pitching and hitting have been on the same page during their current hot streak that has seen the Fish win nine of eleven following a 1-0 decision over the visiting Mets in Thursday's series finale. Tom Koehler was at his best with a two hit shutout over eight innings with but did not geta decision with Miami scoring the lone run of the game. Marcell Ozuna hit a sac fly to score Giancarlo Stanton to win it. Jacob Turner makes his second straight start since returning from a shoulder injury. Turner's first outing was a struggle with six runs scored on nine hits in four frames of a 9-7 loss to the Dodgers.

If you follow San Diego you are fully aware of the strengths and weaknesses of this team and scoring falls under the latter category. The lack of scoring punch was once again an issue in Wednesday's 8-0 series ending defeat at the hands of visiting Kansas City. The offense was just one problem as the defense commited three errors and the pitching was hit hard. Andrew Cashner allowed four runs (two earned) in four frames followed by three relievers who were charged with another four runs. The bats posted eight hits and walked twice but were never able to push anything across the plate. Ian Kennedy makes his second start of 2014 versus the Marlins when they visit Petco Park on Friday. Kennedy hopes to rebound from a 4-3 loss to Arizona where he gave up three runs on eleven hits in five innings.
Miami has only two road wins and San Diego can't score so neither team is a sure thing. I'm simply going with the better odds because the Marlins are hot...
