The Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Angels face off on Friday in Toronto for game one of their series.
The Toronto Blue Jays appear to be putting it together after falling well short of expectations last season. The Blue Jays are 7-7 at home, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they have won their last five games in a row. As a team the Blue Jays are hitting .257 with Melky Cabrera hitting .331, Dioner Navarro hitting .300, and Jose Bautista hitting .298. The Toronto pitching staff has an ERA of 4.37 with the starters at 4.04 and the bullpen at 4.94. For game one against the Angels the Blue Jays start Dustin McGowan who is coming off of a win in his last start. For the season McGowan has allowed 30 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 20 over 30 innings for a 2-1 record and a 4.80 ERA.

The Los Angeles Angels looked like they were ready to make a move and get into the mix in the AL West but they stumbled at the close of their home stand to fall below .500 for the season. The Angels are 8-7 on the road, 5-5 in their last 10 games, and they are three games behind the A’s in the American League West. As a team the Angels are hitting .253 with Howie Kendrick hitting .293, Albert Pujols hitting .293, and Mike Trout hitting .287. The Angels pitching staff has an ERA of 3.88 with the starters at 3.79 and the bullpen at 4.08. For game one against the Jays Los Angeles starts Garrett Richards who had a win last time out. For the season Richards has allowed 25 hits and 12 earned runs while striking out 40 over 38 innings for a 3-0 record and a 2.84 ERA.
Toronto is 6-0 in their last six games, 3-8 against the AL West, and 2-6 in McGowan’s last eight starts. Los Angeles is 5-1 in game one of a series, 4-10 as a road underdog, and 5-11 in Richards’ last 16 starts as an underdog. Los Angles is 7-1 in the last eight meetings of these two.
With the total set at nine I have to believe this one comes in under the number.
My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
