The Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins face off on Saturday at Tiger Stadium for game two of their AL Central series.
The Detroit Tigers look to be running away with the AL Central but they lost a little ground on Friday as they lost to the Twins. Austin Jackson had three hits, Nick Castellanos had two hits, and Miguel Cabrera and Ian Kinslr had hits as the Tigers scored one run on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Justin Verlander allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out five over 7.0 innings to take the loss. For Saturday’s game the Tigers start Max Scherzer who won the AL Cy Young Award last season. For the season Scherzer has allowed 33 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 60 over 47 innings for a 4-1 record and a 1.72 ERA.

The Minnesota Twins didn’t get a ton of offense on Friday but they made it hold up as they beat the Tigers in Detroit. Brian Dozier, Kurt Suzuki, and Chris Parmalee each had two hits as the Twins scored twice on nine hits. Starting pitcher Phil Hughes allowed eight hits and struck out three over 7.0 scoreless innings to get the win as Glen Perkins earned the save. For Saturday’s game the Twins start Kyle Gibson who is coming off of a no decision in an outing he allowed two hits and no runs over 7.0 innings against the Indians. For the season Gibson has allowed 33 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 16 over 36 innings for a 3-2 record and a 3.50 ERA.
Detroit is 8-2 in their last 10 games, 23-9 in game two of a series, and 40-11 in Scherzer’s last 51 starts as a favorite. Minnesota is 4-7 in their last 11 games, 7-18 in game two of a series, and 5-2 in Gibson’s last seven road starts. Detroit is 8-1 in Scherzer’s last nine games against the Twins.
While the Tigers are the pick here to me they aren’t playable at this price.
