The Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres will play game three of four on Saturday night with the series tied at one apiece.
The Marlins watched their five-game winning streak come to an end with a 10-1 loss on Friday. Still, the Marlins are in first place in the NL East and have won nine of their last 11 games. The problem is the Marlins are just 3-11 on the road and have struck out 27 times in the first two games of this series. Giancarlo Stanton is riding an 11-game hitting streak. Starting Saturday is Nate Eovaldi, who is 2-1 with a 2.78 ERA and has 45 strikeouts in 45.1 innings. Eovaldi is 1-1 with a 1.96 ERA in three career starts against the Padres.

The Padres have lost three of their last 10 games and finally showed some offensive firepower in Friday’s win. Unfortunately for them, the Padres are still 3-13 this season when allowing more than three runs. The Padres have only three players who have double-digit RBI and they’ve hit only 20 homers in 37 games. The lack of run support has really hurt the Padres pitching staff, including Eric Stults, who is 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA and has 15 strikeouts in 33.1 innings. Stults is 1-3 with a 5.79 ERA and in five career starts against the Marlins.
The Marlins are 7-3 in Eovaldi's last 10 starts and 21-45 in their last 66 during game 3 of a series. The Padres are 16-5 in Stults' last 21 home starts and 8-3 in Stults' last 11 starts as a home underdog. The Marlins are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings against the Padres.
Friday's game was a fluke, as the Padres struggle to get one run let alone 10 in a single game. Eovaldi is a talented pitcher with a live arm who should quiet the Padres bats. With this price, you have to go with the better team in the Marlins. The fish will bounce back.
