The Los Angeles Angels shoot for back to back victories against the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday.
I can see the Angels out of the American League West race by the All Star break if they don't begin stringing wins together on a consistent basis which hasn't been this teams forte' the last few years. Every hot streak begins with that first win and the LAA got it by a 4-3 count over Toronto in the series opener. Garrett Richards gave up two runs on five hits in seven frames before receiving a ND when Joe Smith blew the save when a run scored in the 8th. The bats posted nine hits and walked seven times with four players driving in runs with Mike Trout launching his 7th long ball. Tyler Skaggs will be on the bump for game two of the series at Toronto on Saturday. Skaggs was hit hard last time out in a 14-3 defeat at the hands of Texas where he gave up six runs on eight hits in 2.2 innings.

All good things must come to an end and for the Blue Jays that means their five game winning streak halted in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Angels. The offense had been on a big time roll in this stretch with 38 runs but it was all pitching in the series opener. Dustin McGowan gave his team a chance with two runs plated in five frames before Sergio Santos and Brett Cecil allowed single runs. The bats were quiet on seven hits with Jose Reyes recording three hits including a solo homer while scoring twice. JA Happ makes just his second start of the 2014 campaign when he squares off with the visiting Angels. Happ was outstanding in his only outing with a three hit shutout in five innings of a 3-0 win.
The Blue Jays have been playing their best although we'll see how things go over the next week to see if they remain hot while the Angels never seem to win in bunches. Consider that when backing them here...
