The Atlanta Braves look to sweep the Chicago Cubs on Sunday afternoon.
The Cubs have lost six of their last seven games and are sitting at the bottom of the NL Central. As has been the case all season, the Cubs can’t put runs on the board as they’ve scored just two runs in the first two games of this series. Anthony Rizzo does have four homers in his last 10 games and Starlin Castro has gotten on base in five straight games, but the Cubs have been held to three or less runs in six of their last eight. Taking the mound Sunday is Edwin Jackson who is 2-2 with a 4.57 ERA and has 35 strikeouts in 41.1 innings. Jackson is 0-2 with a 3.78 ERA in five career starts against the Braves.
USA TODAY Sports
The Braves have overcome a massive losing streak and have won three of their last four games to get back on track. The Braves have returned back to their dominant pitching, holding teams to two runs or less in three of their last four matchups. The Braves remain one of the worst scoring teams in the league, but it helps with your team ERA is 2.74, which is the best in the majors. Starting Sunday is Aaron Harang who is 3-3 with a 2.98 ERA and has 43 strikeouts in 42.1 innings. Harang is 11-8 with a 4.35 ERA in 27 career starts against the Cubs.
The Cubs are 2-8 in Jackson's last 10 road starts and 3-14 in Jackson's last 17 starts. The Braves are 2-6 in their last 8 games as a favorite and 70-34 in their last 104 games as a home favorite.
As we saw last week, the Braves can lose any game because they don't have an offense to put teams away. Jackson is a veteran pitcher who has done a decent job this season. I'll go ahead and take my chances with the Cubs on the road in what should be another tight matchup.
