The Seattle Mariners hope to stay hot in a Sunday bout with the Kansas City Royals.
Kansas City has been struggling for consistency at the plate and on the mound and are still seaching for it after Saturday's 3-1 loss at Seattle. The Royals have now dropped seven of ten and desperately need to get going to prevent falling behind in the division by too much. The good news was Yordani Ventura continued to throw the well but didn't get enough support. Ventura gave up all three runs on six hits and four BB in 6.1 innings to fall to 2-2. Four hits simply wasn't enough with the lone run plated on Alcides Escobar's sacrifice. Kansas City gives Sunday's start to Jeremy Guthrie who is looking to cool down the Mariners. ie has been up and down at times in 2014 but was up in his last appearance with one run allowed in eight innings of a 3-1 win over San Diego.

If there is reason for concern from Seattle it is their scoring has shown signs of slowing. During their latest hot streak the bats were pounding the ball but have scored a grand total of five runs in four games. That didn't come in to play Saturday because starter Chris Young didn't need much. Young improved to 3-0 with the only run plated on three hits in an eight inning stint. The Mariners attack mustered seven hits and walked four times with Justin Smoak blasting a two run bomb while Dustin Ackley went solo. Left hander Roenis Elias makes his 8th career start against a dangerous Kansas City squad. Roenis has won back to back games with four runs given up on eleven hits over 13.1 innings.
I don't like what I have seen from the Seattle offense recently but on the flip side the Royals have been struggling all over so that has looking at the Mariners...
