The New York Mets have been struggling of late but they were able to stop the bleeding at least temporarily getting a win on Sunday. The Mets are 8-9 on the road, 2-8 in their last 10 games, and they are four games back in the NL East. As a team the Mets are hitting .225 with Daniel Murphy hitting .317, David Wright hitting .289, and Eric Young hitting .234. As a team the Mets pitching staff has an ERA of 3.90 with the starters at 3.81 and the bullpen at 4.09. For game one in the Bronx the Mets start Bartolo Colon who has lost four of his last five starts. For the season Colon has allowed 55 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 34 over 43.2 innings for a 2-5 record and a 5.36 ERA.
The Yankees are 1-4 in their last five home games, 5-1 at home against a right-handed starter, and 3-7 in Kuroda’s last 10 starts. The Mets are 4-0 against the AL East, 2-7 in their last nine interleague games, and 1-4 in Colon’s last five starts. The Mets have won the last four meetings against the Yankees.
The starting pitching is even but shaky but the Mets bullpen is scary bad so I give the Yankees the edge here.
