The Chicago Cubs are once again having a tough year as they sit in last place in the NL Central. The Cubs are 5-13 on the road, 3-7 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last three games. As a team the Cubs are hitting .227 with Emilio Bonifacio is hitting .293, Anthony Rizzo is hitting .285, and Starlin Castro is hitting .282. The Cubs pitching staff has an ERA of 3.74 with the starters at 3.66 and the bullpen at 3.91. For Monday’s game the Cubs start Travis Wood who is coming off of a loss in his last start. For the season Wood has allowed 48 hits and 22 earend runs while striking out 40 over 41.2 innings for a 2-4 record and a 4.75 ERA.
St. Louis is 5-2 at home against a left-handed starter, 45-19 in their last 64 hem games, and 1-8 in Lyons’ last nine starts. Chicago is 16-38 in their last 54 games, 7-22 as a road underdog, and 0-5 in Woods’ last five road starts. Chicago is 3-8 in their last 11 games against St. Louis.
Lyons can’t buy a win and it’s hard to see how the Cards are this big of a price here so I am going with the value with Wood and the Cubs.
