The Texas Rangers and Houston Astros will play Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park.
The Rangers won the first game, 4-0, but have still lost five of their last eight games and are just one game above a .500 record. It’s hard for the Rangers to play with any type of consistency when their pitching staff has allowed five or more runs in six of their last 10 games. The Rangers are 3-19 this season when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, although Prince Fielder has only three homers, he does have 11 hits in his 10 games. Getting the nod on Tuesday will be Matt Harrison, who is 1-0 with a 2.87 ERA and has nine strikeouts in 15.2 innings. Harrison is 0-2 with a 5.95 ERA in five career games against the Astros.
USA TODAY Sports
The Astros are 15 games below .500 and have lost eight of their last 10 games. While the Astros have a lot of issues, one of their main concerns is that they can’t put runs on the board. The Astros had 11 hits in Monday’s loss to the Rangers and didn’t score a single run. Pitching hasn’t been kind to the Astros, either, as a 4.82 ERA is the worst in the majors. Jose Altuve has three straight games with at least two hits. Dallas Keuchel makes the start for the Astros, and he’s 3-2 with a 3.68 ERA and has 40 strikeouts in 44 innings. Keuchel is 0-2 with a 4.75 ERA in five career starts against the Rangers.
The Rangers are 21-7 in Harrison's last 28 starts with 4 days of rest and 1-5 in Harrison's last 6 starts. The Astros are 4-0 in Keuchel's last 4 starts with 4 days of rest and 2-7 in Keuchel's last 9 starts as a home underdog. The Astros are 1-4 in Keuchel's last 5 starts vs. Rangers.
Picking any team against the Astros is great value with this price. The Astros can't score or pitch, and Harrison has looked good this season in limited action. I'll take the Rangers all day in this spot.
