The Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles finish off their series at Camden Yards on Wedneday afternoon.
Detroit was one of the hottest teams in the game but have hit their first slow patch of the season. Having said that the Tigers claimed back to back victories behind a 9th inning rally in a 4-1 decision at Camden Yards on Tuesday. Starter Drew Smyly allowed the lone run on five hits and a pair of walks in seven frames while striking out seven. The Tigers offense mustered six hits and a trio of BB on balls and never threatened until the 9th when they plated four runs with Miguel Cabrera smacking a three run bomb. The Tigers give the ball to Justin Verlander in the final game of their series at Baltimore. Verlander looks to be in Cy Young form with a 4-2 record with a 2.67 ERA over eight outings.

Baltimore's spot atop the American League East isn't solid so every win is precious and every defeat is painful. Tuesday's 4-1 loss really hurt as the Orioles took a 1-0 lead in to the 9th only to see closer Tommy Hunter give up all four runs with the key blow being a three run homer by Miguel Cabrera. In the process Ubaldo Jimenez received a no decision despite a three hit shutout over seven innings pitched. The offense totaled seven hits and walked twice and led for eight innings on the strength of Adam Jones first inning solo jack. Kevin Gausman gets his first start of 2014 with the task of controlling the potent Detroit offense. Gausman struggled when he was called up a year ago but is viewed as the #2 prospect in the orgganization.
I don't know what to expect from Gausman who is not only making his first start of the year but also just recovered from a bout with pneumonia. I'm looking at the Tigers who should be hyped up after Tuesday's dramatics...
