The Texas Rangers and Houston Astros will play their rubber game on Wednesday night.
The Rangers continue their horrible slump, losing six of their last nine games and falling to a .500 record. The Rangers pitching staff is in large part to blame, as they’ve allowed five or more runs in seven of their last 11 games. However, the Rangers lineup didn’t help themselves in Tuesday’s loss, producing seven hits and zero runs. Prince Fielder has five hits in his last three games, but has hit only one homerun in about a month. Nick Tepesch will see his first action this season, and he finished last year 4-6 with a 4.84 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 93 innings. Tepesch is 2-0 with a 4.09 ERA in two career starts against the Astros.
USA TODAY Sports
The Astros have won two of their last three games, but have also lost eight of their last 11 games and are 14 games below a .500 record. The Astros finally put together a solid game on both sides in Tuesday’s win, as the pitching allowed zero runs and the lineup knocked in eight runs on 11 hits. Jose Altuve now has two or more hits in four straight games. Scott Feldman will get the nod Wednesday, and he’s 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA and has 15 strikeouts in 32.2 innings. Feldman is 1-1 with a 3.26 ERA in three career starts against the Rangers.
The Rangers are 0-5 in their last 5 games as an underdog and 2-7 in their last 9 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Astros are 12-42 in their last 54 overall and 22-65 in their last 87 during game 3 of a series. The Rangers are 22-5 in the last 27 meetings in Houston.
Although the Rangers haven't lived up to expectations, we're getting the better team for even money against one of the worst teams in the MLB. I'll take the Rangers and these odds every day of the week.
