The St. Louis Cardinals hope to right the ship when they host the Chicago Cubs in their series finale'.
If you are a fan of the Cubs or just follow the game you are aware of this team's struggles through the years. It doesn't seem that is going to change in 2014 as the losing streaks outnumber the hot streaks. Chicago had a golden opportunity to deal struggling St Louis another loss on Tuesday as they tied the game in the 9th only to lose 4-3 in 12. Starter Jake Arrieta gave up a run in four innings with Carlos Villanueva allowing two in 1.1 frames. Justin Grimm absorbed the loss with a run plated in the 12th. Chicago totaled ten hits and six walks with Luis Valbuena going deep and knocking in two. Chicago is scheduled to send Jason Hammel to the mound in the final game of their series at St Louis. Hammel is off to a red hot start with a 4-1 record and 2.45 ERA with a 0.86 WHIP in 47.2 innings.

The Cardinals have loads of talent at nearly every position and were nearly the unanimous choice to capture another National League Central title. There is a good chance that could become reality if the offense comes around and provides some consistent scoring. Runs were a problem Tuesday and cost Adam Wainwright a win after he allowed just two runs on seven hits over six frames. Trevor Rosenthal blew the save with a run plated in the 9th but three relievers held the Cubs off the scoreboard to give the bats ba chance to get the win. Greg Garcia was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Jonny Peralta while Mike AAdams posted two hits and RBI to lead the attack. Michael Wacha gets the call to the mound Wednesday to face NL Central rival Chicago. Wacha has generally thrown the ball well with a 2-3 record despite a 2.85 ERA while the team is 2-6 in his starts.
St louis has the edge in nearly everything and everywhere but are not hitting which tells me a hot Hammel might have a shot. Regardless I can't lay the big chalk until the Cards get going...
