The slumping Texas Rangers hope to right the ship when the Toronto Blue Jays pay a visit on Friday.
Toronto has avoided the ultra slow start of a year ago and now must limit the losing streaks to contend in the American League East. The Blue Jays have been heading in the right direction after a 4-2 victory over visiting Cleveland on Thursday gave the Jays wins in seven of eleven. Lefty JA Happ came up huge on the mound with one run given up on a solo homer in six innings of work to improve to 2-1. The Blue Jays totaled nine hits and walked five tines with Edwin Encarnacion slamming a pair of bombs and driving in three while Juan Francisco connected on a solo jack. Drew Hutchinson opens the series on the mound against the Rangers. Hutchinson has struggled the last three times out where he gave up a combined 12 runs on 17 hits and six BB over 19.1 frames.

The Rangers are hovering around .500 and that isn't going to be good enough to challenge in the American League West. The offense and pitching simply haven't been getting the job done over the last few weeks with losses in seven of ten. Texas almost stole one in a 5-4 defeat at Houston on Wednesday as they a 4-0 lead before the walls caved in. Nick Tepesch rceived a no decision with a lone run plated over 5.2 frames before three reliever gave up four runs to lose it. The bats totaled eleven hits with Alex Rios leaving the yard while Prince Fielder drove in a pair. The Rangers look for Yu Darvish to get Texas on the way to a long winning streak when he face the Blue Jays. Darvish was at his best in an 8-0 defeat of Boston in which he struck out 12 over 8.2 shutout innings.
Toronto is definitely playing better baseball then Texas although Darvish is the better hurler. I'd be hesitant to back the Rangers at the big juice given their struggles so no play for me...
