The Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers face off on Saturday at Fenway Park in game two of their series.
The Boston Red Sox just couldn’t get anything going offensively on Friday as they fell to the Tigers. David Ortiz, Mike Carp, and David Ross each had hits as the Red Sox were shutout on three hits. Starting pitcher Jon Lester allowed four hits and a runs while striking out seven over five innings to take the loss and fall to 4-5 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Red Sox start John Lackey who has won his last three decisions. For the season Lackey has allowed 53 hits and 21 earned runs while striking out 52 over 53 innings for a 5-2 record and a 3.57 ERA.

The Detroit Tigers didn’t get a lot of offense on Friday but they made it hold up as they won game one against the Red Sox. Torii Hunter had two hits and Miguel Cabrera and Ian Kinsler had hits as the Red Sox scored one run on six hits. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer allowed three hits and struck out seven over 6.0 scoreless innings to get the win and go to 6-1 for the season and Joe Nathan earned his 11th save. On Saturday the Tigers start Rick Porcello who has won his last five starts. For the season Porcello has allowed 40 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 29 over 44.2 innings for a 6-1 record and a 3.22 ERA.
Boston is 4-2 in their last six home games, 7-2 as a home favorite, and 11-5 in Lackey’s last 16 starts. Detroit is 9-0 in their last nine road games, 13-3 in their last 16 games, and 19-7 in Porcello’s last 26 starts. Detroit is 16-37 in their last 53 games in Boston.
