The San Francisco Giants and the Miami Marlins face off on Saturday at AT&T Park as they continue their weekend series.
The San Francisco Giants battled back twice on Friday but in the end it wasn’t good enough as they fell to the Marlins. Angel Pagan, Michael Morse, and Pablo Sandoval each had two hits as the Giants scored five runs on 11 hits in all. Starting pitcher Yumiero Petit allowed seven hits and five runs while striking out five over 5.0 innings but didn’t factor in the decision as Santiago Casilla took the loss. For Saturday’s rematch the Giants send Tim Lincecum to the hill and he has won three of his last four decisions. For the season Lincecum has allowed 52 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 46 over 43.1 innings for a 3-2 record and a 4.78 ERA.

The Miami Marlins haven’t been a good road team this season but they hung in and got a win on the road on Friday in San Francisco. Jarrod Saltalamacchia had four hits and Christian Yellich and Derek Dietrich each hit home runs as the Marlins scored seven runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez allowed 10 hits and five runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as it was Mike Dunn who got the win to go to 3-3 for the season and Steve Chisek earned his seventh save. For Saturday’s game the Marlins start Tom Koehler who has solid numbers but who has lost two of his last three decisions. For the season Koehler has allowed 34 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 30 over 49 innings for a 3-3 record and a 2.57 ERA.
San Francisco is 7-2 against the NL East, 6-2 in game three of a series, and 6-1 in Lincecum’s last seven starts. Miami is 7-3 following a win, 2-6 in their last eight games overall, and 5-2 in Koehler’s last seven starts against the NL West. Miami is 11-2 in their last 13 games in San Francisco.
This is a tough one as there are just a lot of variables here. The Giants have been supporting Lincecum and I have to think they will here and that should be enough.
