Starting pitcher John Lackey allowed nine hits and six runs, five earned, while striking out four over 5.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 5-3 for the season. The Detroit Tigers have the best record in baseball and they reminded the Red Sox of that again on Saturday. Miguel Cabrera had three hits including a home run, Victor Martinez had two hits, and Torii Hunter and Ian Kinsler had hits as the Tigers scored six runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Rick Porcello allowed six hits and a run while striking out four over 8.0 innings for the win and to raise his record to 7-1 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Tigers start Anibal Sanchez who makes his return from the DL. For the season Sanchez has allowed 15 hits and 11 runs while striking out 24 over 23 innings for a 0-2 record and a 3.13 ERA.
Boston is 4-1 after losing the first two games of a series, 7-4 as a favorite, and 5-0 in Peavy’s last five starts with four days of rest. Detroit is 20-7 in their last 27 games overall, 11-1 in their last 12 road games, and 17-37 in their last 54 games in Boston.
Sanchez doesn’t give up much and Peavy is a battler and a bulldog and I expect runs to be scarce so the under is my for free pick. My second free pick is on the winning side and I will give it out for 100 percent FREE as Mitch’s App Attack video pick on the App.
