The Cleveland Indians and the Oakland A’s face off on Sunday in Cleveland as they close out their weekend series.
The Cleveland Indians have dropped their first two games of their series with the A’s after falling to Oakland again on Saturday. Michael Bourn, Carlos Santana, and Michael Brantley each had hits as the Indians scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Josh Tomlin allowed five hits and three runs while striking out two over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-1 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Indians start Justin Masterson who is coming off of a loss that ended a personal two game winnings streak. For the season Masterson has allowed 52 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 52 over 54.1 innings for a 2-2 record and a 4.31 ERA.

The Oakland A’s remain on of the hottest teams in baseball and lead the American League West after beating the Indians again on Saturday. Josh Donaldson had three hits, Brandon Moss had two hits including a home run, and Coco Crisp had a hit as the A’s scored six runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Scott Kazmir allowed a hit and a run lasting just 1.1 innings as Don Otero came in and got the win to go to 4-0 for the season. For Sunday’s game the A’s start Jesse Chavez who has won two of his last three decisions. For the season Chavez has allowed 40 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 51 over 51.2 innings for a 3-1 record and a 2.44 ERA.
Cleveland is 6-2 against a right-handed starter, 7-4 in their last 11 home games, and 13-6 in Masterson’s last 19 starts. Oakland is 8-1 in their last nine games, 6-2 in their last eight road games, and 7-1 in Chavez’s last eight starts. Oakland is 2-4 in their last six games in Cleveland.
