The Cincinnati Reds take the field with the Washington Nationals for game two of their series in DC.
It might be me but it seems that nothing comes easy for Cincinnati who I know are getting back to full strength but they are taking their lumps in the mean time. The Reds edged Washington 4-3 Monday in 15 innings as they overcame a blown save by Aroldis Chapman and a shaky 15th from Logan Ondrusek. The Reds got the win but starter Mike Leake didn't despite allowing a single run in 6.2 innings. The Reds totaled 13 hits and five BB with Todd Frazier winning it with a two run homer in the 15th. Cincinnati turns to ace Johnny Cueto for game two of their series with Washington. Cueto is trying to keep his team afloat with a 4-2 record and 1.25 ERA in nine starts covering 72 innings.

Washington's bid to over take Atlanta for the top spot in the National League East took a step back in Monday's defeat. Even though they lost the Nationals didn't go quietly as they rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game in the 9th and had the tying run on base in the 15th. Stephen Strasburg threw well enough to win with a pair of runs allowed in seven innings but Ross Detwiler took the loss when he was touched for a two run homer in the 15th. The Nationals mustered eleven hits with Scott Haiston hitting a sac fly in the 9th to send the game to extras. Denard Span and Ian Desmond rounded out the Nats scoring with run scoring hits. Washington gives Tuesday's start to right hander Doug Fister who makes his third start of 2014. Fister was outstanding last time out in a 5-1 victory at Arizona with the lone run plated in seven innings.
In my view Cueto is one of the top 2-3 pitchers in the game and getting him at this price deserves a look. The bad part of this is the Reds might not score or botch something up so it's still risky...
