The Pittsburgh Pirates host the Washington Nationals in game two of their series at PNC Park.
The one thing Washington needs to avoid with first in the National League East not far away is losing streaks. That being said, the Nationals dropped a 3-1 decision at Pittsburgh Thursday for losses in three of four. A well pitched game went by the wayside with the offense struggling to produce. Blake Treinen was charged with two runs on three hits and five free passes in 5.2 innings but all that equated to was a loss with the offense failing to generate much. The Nats mustered five hits with Ian Desmond smacking a solo homer. The Nationals turn to Jordan Zimmermann on the bump for the second game of the series with Pittsburgh. Zimmermann is 3-1 on the year with a 3.70 ERA over nine starts.

Pittsburgh has struggled in the early going and their number one goal right now is to reach .500 and the concentrate on challenging for first in the National League Central. The Buccos pitching held the fort long enough for the bats to push across a few runs with starter Edinson Volquez allowing the lone run in six frames with three relievers keeping Washington off the board. The bats totaled seven hits and six walks with Andrew McCutchen driving in a pair with Josh Harrison plating another and scoring. Sinkerballer Charlie Morton toes the rubber Friday shooting for his first victory of the season. Morton has thrown the ball very well with a 3.45 ERA which makes his 0-6 record difficult to understand.
Runs might be at a premium again with two capable hurlers going at it. It's a worry backing Morton because his team doesn't play well behind him which is scary because I'm backing him...
