The Los Angeles Angels continue their series with the visiting Kansas City Royals Saturday.
Kansas City has yet to get going and they need to with Detroit playing well and looking like a threat to run away with the American League Central. The Royals fell to the Angels 6-1 in the series opner for their third defeat in four outings as neither the pitching or hitting were strong. Danny Duffy couldn't contain the Angels attack with five runs given up on nine hits and a pair of free passes over six frames. That was far to much for the KC offense that mustered five hits and led 1-0 on an Alex Gordon RBI in the first but it was downhill from there. Kansas City leans on right hander James Shields to control the scoreboard against the Angels. Shields has been strong in 2014 with a 6-3 record and 2.67 ERA in ten outings covering 67.1 frames.

The Angels are playing their best baseball of the season and the reward is second in the American League West behind Oakland. The work at the plate and on the mound have been on the same page during the past two weeks with the team winning eight of ten after Friday's victory. CJ Wilson picked up the win with the lone run scored on four hits and four BB in 6.1 innings while four relievers kept the Royals scoreless the rest of the way. Los Angeles pounded out 12 hits with Mike Trout and Chris Iannetta cracking long balls. Overall six players knocked in runs and five scored. Rookie Matt Shoemaker makes his 4th consecutive start versus Kansas City. Shoemaker s hoping to duplicate his last start when he allowed a single run on two hits and a trio of walks in a 6-2 win over Tampa Bay.
On paper th Royals have a huge edge on the mound with Shields with the Angels owning the offensive advantage. I'm backing the hot home team as a dog but I honestly don't have a great feel for this...
