The New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks hope to avoid the rain and get their game in Saturday.
The Diamondbacks are still in need of a long winning streak thanks to a painfully slow start that has the team simply trying to reach .500 while avoiding getting buried for good in the National League West. Arizona has played better yet are still 13 games below the breakeven point. The Snakes are better then their record and have the talent to compete but the question is whether they can get their arms and bats on the same page often enough to recover. In my view the team has to make a run in the next six weeks or I think they will be an afterthought. Josh Collmenter looks to pitch the Diamondbacks past the Mets in Saturday action. Collmenter is in search of consistency with only a single quality start in seven outings.

The Mets have been a team that needs all their pieces to perform at a high level to win. At four games below the .500 mark New York is clinging to the hopes of getting hot and challenging Atlanta and Washington in the National League East. This team can't be ignored but they have been bitten by the injury bug and this is a team that need all their pieces performing at a high level. The work on the mound has struggled to get on the same page and that is a problem with the NL East getting more competitive leaving the Mets on the outside looking in. Zack Wheeler toes the rubber versus the Diamondbacks Saturday. Wheeler is also in need of consistency but has also been hurt by his defense and a lack of support with a 1-4 record and 4.53 ERA.
Neither team has done anything lately to make me confident in backing them. Wheeler has thrown the ball well versus Arizona but I'm inclined to side with the better odds or sit on the sidelines...
