The Arizona Diamondbacks clash with National League West rival the San Diego Padres.
As in past seasons runs or lack thereof have been a problem for San Diego. That has put a load of pressure on the pitching and this is not a staff that can carry the load day in, day out. It was in a 4-3 victory at Arizona on Tuesday behind Eric Stults who allowed all three runs on five hits over six frames. The Padres offense made that work on ten hits and a walk with Tommy Medica posting three hits including a homer and a pair of RBI's. Tim Stauffer makes just his second start of the 2014 campaign when he faces the Diamondbacks. Stauffer looks to duplicate his first outing when he tossed five scoreless innings in an 11-1 victory over the Cubs.

Arizona is in the process of rebounding from a very poor start to 2014 so winning series and avoiding losing streaks of any length is priority number one. The Diamondbacks took a step back in Tuesday's defeat at the hands of visiting San Diego. Wade Miley threw a winnable game with three runs plated through seven frames while striking out eleven but Evan Marshall served up an 8th inning homer to absorb the loss. The offense totaled five hits and and walked six times with Gerardo Parra, Miguel Montero and Martin Prado driving in runs. Rookie Chase Anderson makes his third career start against San Diego. After giving up one run in his debut Anderson was charged with five runs in 5.1 frames of an 18-7 win over Los Angeles.
I'm not 100% confident in Stauffer or the Padres offense but Anderson is really an unknown. I am backing the visitors as dogs and hope for some runs...
